The children are led out to the church hall, where we have a space set up for them, with an altar decorated with liturgical colours, a crucifix and any other items relevant to the Sunday in question, such as a special icon or the Advent Wreath in Advent.
The main focus of our gathering together is always the Word of God. We begin by saying a sorry prayer and thanking God for always loving us and forgiving us. We stand to hear the Sunday Gospel together, in a format or translation which is suitable for the young children we are working with. We then discuss the Gospel with the children, using questions, props or even sometimes a simple drama to help them consider what Jesus is saying to them today. Finally, we will respond to the message we have heard, perhaps through preparing a gift or prayer card for others, by colouring or drawing a picture related to the Gospel message, or by having a prayer experience together. We finish with a prayer together, before coming back into the church building and two of the children will join the offertory procession to bring something they have worked on up to the altar.

Assumption of Our Lady - Children
Children are capable of a deep and intuitive spirituality and at Assumption of Our Lady,we are privileged to work alongside them by providing a Children's Liturgy of the Word. On Sundays in term time, we have a team working with children aged between 3 and 8 years old, presenting the Sunday's Gospel to them.
Children arrive with their families and leave together after the opening hymn and greeting. The group is invited to the front of the church by the priest, who says a prayer for us and presents the children with a Bible for the procession out of church.
