The children are led out to the church hall, where we have a space set up for them, with an altar decorated with liturgical colours, a crucifix and any other items relevant to the Sunday in question, such as a special icon or the Advent Wreath in Advent.

The main focus of our gathering together is always the Word of God. We begin by saying a sorry prayer and thanking God for always loving us and forgiving us. We stand to hear the Sunday Gospel together, in a format or translation which is suitable for the young children we are working with. We then discuss the Gospel with the children, using questions, props or even sometimes a simple drama to help them consider what Jesus is saying to them today. Finally, we will respond to the message we have heard, perhaps through preparing a gift or prayer card for others, by colouring or drawing a picture related to the Gospel message, or by having a prayer experience together. We finish with a prayer together, before coming back into the church building and two of the children will join the offertory procession to bring something they have worked on up to the altar.
